Its scent is soft, enveloping, and deeply familiar. It evokes a delicate warmth, the skin of a ripe fruit, a barely sweet treat, or the comfort of a childhood memory. But behind this apparent simplicity lies a material of great richness, capable of revealing facets that are balsamic, woody, spicy, powdery, or slightly smoky in turn.

In perfumery, vanilla is never just a gourmand note. Depending on its origin and extraction method, it can be bright, sensual, dark, or almost leathery. It adds roundness to compositions, softens the most intense materials, and leaves a warm trail on the skin that evolves slowly.

Its sweetness never erases the other ingredients. It brings them together.

Two origins, two expressions of vanilla

At Aimée de Mars, we work with two complementary expressions of vanilla: a vanilla tincture from Madagascar and a vanilla absolute originating from New Guinea, Papua.

Vanilla is the fruit of a climbing orchid. After flowering, the pods slowly develop before being harvested while still green. Then begins a long transformation process: they are blanched, steamed, dried, and then aged for several months. It is during this maturation that their fragrance reveals itself and gains depth.

The Madagascar vanilla tincture offers a supple and nuanced expression of the material. Obtained by macerating the pods in alcohol, it captures their natural sweetness, balsamic facets, and delicately spicy warmth.

Denser, the New Guinea vanilla absolute reveals a deep and enveloping personality. Its darker, woody, and sometimes slightly smoky nuances enrich compositions and extend their presence on the skin.

These two origins allow Aimée de Mars to work with vanilla in all its complexity, far from a uniform or overly sweet softness.

A material that envelops the chords

In perfumery, vanilla is a major base ingredient.

It softens woods, warms resins, complements flowers, and adds roundness to amber accords. It can also highlight spices, reveal the sensuality of a floral bouquet, or create a gentle contrast with the freshness of citrus.

On the skin, its development is slow. Its initial balsamic and slightly spicy facets gradually soften, revealing a warmer, almost velvety sensation. Its trail then blends into the skin without ever becoming heavy.

In Aimée de Mars creations, vanilla brings a warm depth and a sense of harmony. Sometimes subtle, sometimes more pronounced, it accompanies other ingredients and offers them a soft, sensual, and lasting setting.

  • THE FRUIT OF AN ORCHID

    Vanilla comes from a tropical orchid. Its flowers must be pollinated to produce the long pods that are then harvested and cured.

  • A TRANSFORMATION THAT TAKES TIME

    After harvesting, the pods go through several preparation and drying stages. It takes several months before they develop their dark color and the full richness of their aroma.

    DYE AND ABSOLUTE

    The dye is obtained by macerating the pods in alcohol. It reveals a soft, warm, and nuanced vanilla. The absolute, more concentrated, offers deeper, balsamic, woody, and sometimes slightly smoky facets.
