Sandalwood

Precious wood that soothes time

Its scent slowly settles on the skin, revealing creamy, woody, and delicately milky facets. It evokes the softness of wood polished by years, the warmth of an evening sun, or the comfort of a natural material we love to rediscover. Its presence is discreet but deeply enveloping.

For millennia, sandalwood has accompanied the fragrant traditions of Asia. Appreciated for its refined scent, it has become one of the most precious materials in high perfumery. Its elegance lies not in its strength, but in its ability to create a sensation of calm and balance.

Like the finest trees, sandalwood reminds us that time is often the most precious artisan.

Bois de santal matière Aimee de Mars

A tree that grows with patience

At Aimée de Mars, we have chosen a New Caledonian sandalwood (Santalum austrocaledonicum), sourced from a supply chain committed to preserving this precious resource.

Sandalwood is a remarkable tree because of its slowness. Over several decades, its heartwood gradually develops the aromatic molecules that enrich its fragrance. It usually takes between thirty and fifty years to reach full maturity. Its wood is then distilled to obtain an essential oil with creamy, soft, and subtly woody notes.

This patience is an integral part of its identity.

It also reflects Aimée de Mars’s vision. Every material is selected with the same care, respecting its origin, growth rhythm, and the expertise of those who cultivate it. A fragrance always begins long before its creation: in the soil, the climate, and the patient gestures that accompany nature.

Sandalwood also holds an essential place in the Aiméenolide®, the house’s signature natural "musk" or fixative, which ensures the perfume’s longevity. It brings roundness, softness, and depth, while elegantly extending the scent trail.

A wood that connects the chords

In perfumery, sandalwood is a balancing ingredient.

It envelops flowers without masking them, softens spices, reveals woods, and adds a velvety texture to the most delicate accords. Its olfactory richness allows it to create harmonious compositions, where each ingredient naturally finds its place.

On the skin, its scent evolves slowly. The initial creamy notes gain warmth over the hours, revealing a soft, warm, and infinitely elegant trail. This evolution makes it one of the great base materials in perfumery.

Sandalwood brings to Aimée de Mars creations a soothing presence, natural depth, and that comforting sensation that lingers long after the fragrance.
