The iris is a flower that does not reveal all its secrets at first glance. Its elegance immediately catches the eye, but its true treasure lies beneath the earth. It is in its rhizome that, over the years, one of the most noble materials in perfumery is born.
Its scent is of rare delicacy. Powdery, velvety, slightly woody, sometimes buttery or reminiscent of suede, it brings a discreet elegance and an almost tactile softness to creations. The iris never seeks to impose itself. It gradually reveals itself, leaving an impression of refinement that lingers long in the trail.
For centuries, this material has fascinated perfumers. Its rarity, the time required for its transformation, and the finesse of its scent make it an exceptional ingredient, capable of transforming a composition by its mere presence.
A material shaped by the years
In perfumery, it is not the flower that is used but its rhizome (its root).
After harvesting, it is cleaned and then left to dry for several years. Over time, the vegetal notes gradually disappear to give way to a fragrance of great finesse, with powdery, creamy, and delicately woody facets. This long maturation is essential to obtain the precious iris butter, one of the most sought-after materials in high perfumery.
At the Jardin d'Aimée, Valérie cultivates the iris with the same patience as all the plants that make up her world. Observing its development, respecting its rhythm, and supporting its growth are integral parts of this relationship with living things that inspires every creation of the House.
A portion of these irises is used in the composition of Aiméenolide®, the house’s signature natural "musk" or fixative, ensuring the fragrance’s longevity. It is a direct link between the earth, the plant, and the perfume that fully reflects the philosophy of the House.
A material that brings elegance
In perfumery, iris is a balancing ingredient.
It adds texture without ever weighing down the compositions. It softens flowers, accompanies woods, highlights musks, and creates a subtle transition between the different facets of a fragrance. Just a few touches are enough to give it depth and incomparable elegance.
On the skin, its evolution is just as delicate. Its initial powdery notes gradually blend with the other ingredients, leaving a soft, refined, and luminous trail that almost seems to become one with the skin.

THE SCENT DOES NOT COME FROM THE FLOWER
Contrary to what one might think, it is the rhizome of the iris that is used in perfumery. The flower, as spectacular as it may be, does not have the characteristic scent of this material.

SEVERAL YEARS OF PATIENCE
After harvesting, the rhizomes must dry for several years before developing their olfactory qualities. This maturation makes iris butter one of the most precious materials in high perfumery.
