How to naturally eliminate endocrine disruptors from the body?

Laboratoire Aimée

They hide in the shadows of our daily routines. Invisible, silent, persistent… Endocrine disruptors, these molecules, capable of disrupting the delicate orchestra of our hormones, sneak into our homes and bodies without us noticing. Heated plastics, scented cosmetics, pesticides dissolved in an apparently innocent salad: they are everywhere. Yet, one essential question guides us today: how to eliminate endocrine disruptors from the body naturally ? This article explores simple actions, inspired by nature and validated by common sense, to help our bodies regain clarity, balance, and vitality.

Reducing exposure: the essential first step

As you probably already know, endocrine disruptors are invisible toxic substances that can harm the health of adults, teenagers, children and pregnant women by increasing, for example, the risk of developing a hormone-dependent cancer.

It should be noted that, although less talked about, men are also sensitive to endocrine disruptors, which affect their fertility, metabolism, and can cause the same types of hormone-dependent cancers (such as prostate and testicular cancer).

While it is almost impossible to avoid them completely, it is important, first and foremost, to limit exposure. Trying to eliminate endocrine disruptors from the body without reducing exposure would be like emptying a vase without turning off the tap.

Food, cosmetics, air, clothing, household products, pesticides… Endocrine disruptors are everywhere, and our bodies absorb them in many ways: inhalation, ingestion, contact… Avoiding them requires some daily discipline. In short, reducing exposure is already the first step in an anti-endocrine disruptor approach.

Favor raw, organic, and natural products

In the kitchen, avoid processed and ultra-processed products. From their composition to their production methods (such as cooking at very high temperatures or cereal extrusion), they are bad all around. Prefer whole and raw products, preferably organic to limit residues, because endocrine disruptors in food come as much from pesticides as from packaging and preservation methods. If you are short on time, organic jarred preparations are an option, always checking the labels. Beware of canned foods, which involve cooking the food sealed to eliminate and prevent bacterial growth. The same principle applies to glass jars, which we will always prefer over aluminum cans or plastic packaging.

Prefer natural household products

This advice also applies to household products. Prefer raw products like black soap or white vinegar for your daily cleaning: surface disinfectant, laundry detergent, dish soap, limescale remover...

You can get more eco-friendly products at organic stores or even supermarkets; they release fewer harmful substances to inhale, but you can also consider making your own products very easily and quickly. Bonus: you’ll save money!

Sort your bathroom and learn to choose your cosmetics better

In the bathroom, you will find many of these substances in cosmetics and soaps. Learn to reading INCI labels and equip yourself with analysis apps on your phone to guide your choices.

Remember that the shorter a product’s ingredient list, the more likely it is to be good for you. Even in the bathroom, favor organic products and learn to sharpen your critical eye: a natural allergen is not a problem, but cryptic components like “fragrances” should alert you.

Understanding the list of ingredients and commonly used products, both cosmetic and food-related, is essential to avoid endocrine disruptors. Parabens, Phthalates, BPA, Bisphenol... To learn more about dangerous cosmetic products, discover our detailed article on the subject.
Soon, you will be able to put a product down just seconds after starting to read its ingredients.

Eliminate plastic from your cupboards

Plastic packaging, especially when heated, releases toxic substances that settle on food and are therefore ingested during your meal. Prefer glass or ceramic containers instead; healthier alternatives that are better for the planet. On that note, also be careful with microwaveable preparation pouches. If you buy them anyway, transfer the contents to a plate rather than heating them directly in the pouch.

For children, also avoid plastic toys and generally prefer wooden ones. However, since regulations on harmful products are constantly evolving, try as much as possible to ensure that wooden toys meet current standards and are not coated with harmful varnish, so your children can safely put them in their mouths.

Follow some simple good habits for your interior

Endocrine disruptors also hide in our homes, even in dust. To breathe better at home:

  • Air out all rooms for at least 10 minutes a day.

  • Clean the floors at least twice a week.

  • Don’t hesitate to use a carpet cleaner on your textile furniture—sofas, armchairs, bedding—once or twice a year.

  • Choose your laundry detergent carefully or make your own to avoid harmful substances left after washing. Sure, it smells much better, but that also means the products in the detergent aren’t very natural… Throws, cushions, tablecloths, dish towels, towels, sheets… All these textiles, just like your clothes, come into contact with your skin every day!

  • Whenever possible, make conscious and informed choices for your decor. Research paints to find the most natural options, prefer second-hand furniture for pieces with decorative finishes (wood, color), or textile furniture—like sofas—that can emit toxic substances for years… For small scented accessories like candles or incense, choose natural versions, such as our 100% natural room fragrances.

How to help the body eliminate endocrine disruptors?

Fatty tissues, liver, blood, organs… Endocrine disruptors hide and accumulate in our bodies, just as they do in the environment and nature. This gradual accumulation can affect many biological functions, especially hormonal and reproductive ones, as shown by research on the link between endocrine disruptors and fertility. The body, full of resources, still tries to eliminate these foreign substances through the emunctories, but some are persistent…

As a reminder, the emunctories are the organs responsible for eliminating waste and toxins from the body. The main ones are the kidneys, liver, intestines, lungs, and skin.

It is worth noting that by minimizing your exposure to endocrine disruptors as much as possible, the body will be able to gradually eliminate the remaining molecules and cleanse itself more deeply. However, it is also possible to boost this process by adopting some simple habits.

Many simple lifestyle habits help promote the elimination of EDs and thus improve health:

Engage in regular physical activity

Exercise, as is well known, is crucial for maintaining good health, and it is also a major ally in cleansing the body. Engaging in physical activity allows you to stimulate sweating, an elimination organ, and to activate the lymph, a substance that collects all the waste produced by the body's tissues.

Drink enough

Drinking enough water ensures the proper functioning of the kidneys and thus the effective elimination of waste from the body. Be careful, water can also contain endocrine disruptors, so it is preferable to filter your water, for example with a charcoal filter.

Consume detoxifying foods

The digestive system also plays a major role in eliminating endocrine disruptors. It is therefore essential to support it by adopting a targeted diet. For the liver, an organ that neutralizes toxins, it is possible to boost its functions with specific foods like artichoke or pineapple. And for the intestines, which help eliminate toxins, it is essential to consume fiber and natural probiotics.

Losing fat mass

Lipophilic endocrine disruptors hide in the fats of the human body. Losing fat mass is therefore also a good way to eliminate harmful substances from the body. However, be careful, the goal is not to follow a strict diet and to lose a lot of weight, but rather to transform fat mass into muscle by engaging in physical activity and eating a balanced diet.

Also keep in mind that in cases of rapid weight loss, all these substances are released into the body, and it can again be very difficult for the elimination organs to process and remove them in large amounts. A gradual and reasonable weight loss is therefore preferable.

It is interesting to note that some plant-based dietary supplements like milk thistle or dandelion support the elimination organs such as the liver or kidneys to remove endocrine disruptors. They are valuable allies in the prevention and elimination of EDs.

Wanting to eliminate endocrine disruptors from the body is not a battle, it is a path toward respecting your body. But it is also a gentle, conscious, and patient act, combining a healthier and more natural lifestyle, a cleaner environment, and purer foods. This is a philosophy that the Aimée Mars brand is passionate about sharing with you in each of its products and actions.
