Some trees impress with their height. The cedar, however, stands out mainly by its presence.
Deeply rooted, it passes through the seasons with remarkable consistency. Its scent reflects this nature: woody, warm, and slightly dry, it sometimes evokes sun-warmed wood, sometimes the tip of a freshly sharpened pencil. A familiar and reassuring smell that immediately brings a sense of stability.
In perfumery, cedar is one of the great woody materials. Its olfactory signature, both understated and timeless, supports compositions discreetly. It does not seek to take over: it shapes their structure, highlights their contours, and gives them depth.

Three origins, three expressions of cedar
At Aimée de Mars, we work with three complementary cedar essences: Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica), native to Morocco; Virginia cedar (Juniperus virginiana); and Texas cedar (Juniperus mexicana Schiede), both from the United States.
Atlas cedar reveals a deep and warm scent, with woody, resinous, and slightly velvety nuances. It evokes wood slowly warming under the sun and brings a sense of grounding and softness to compositions.
Drier and livelier, Virginia cedar unveils an immediately recognizable facet, reminiscent of a freshly sharpened pencil. Its clear and precise character adds great elegance to woody accords.
Texas cedar offers a broader and warmer profile. Its woody, slightly smoky, and subtly leathery nuances enrich compositions with additional depth while maintaining a beautiful aromatic freshness. It brings a enveloping presence and remarkable persistence to the accords.
After harvesting, the wood is steam distilled to extract the essential oil. It takes about 35 kilograms of wood to produce one kilogram of essential oil. This process reveals the full aromatic richness of the wood and preserves the unique nuances of each origin.
Like all materials selected by Aimée de Mars, the cedar essences are chosen for the quality of their scent, their provenance, and their ability to support emotion without ever overplaying it, in an approach deeply rooted in life and terroir.
A wood that balances the chords
In perfumery, cedar is an essential base material.
It provides a true backbone to compositions, accompanies flowers, extends the freshness of citrus, and creates a natural link with resins and other woods. Atlas cedar adds more roundness and warmth, Virginia cedar outlines a drier and more precise line, while Texas cedar enriches accords with its woody, slightly smoky, and persistent depth.
On the skin, their facets evolve slowly. The woody freshness of the first moments gradually gives way to a softer, more enveloping warmth. Cedar thus extends the fragrance with elegance, never weighing it down.
In Aimée de Mars creations, it brings a sensation of solidity and inner peace. A calm depth, similar to the feeling of placing your hand on the trunk of an ancient tree.

A FUEL DERIVED FROM WOOD
Cedar essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the wood. About 35 kilograms of material are needed to produce one kilogram of essential oil.
